Training sessions can also be part of each play session so that you can gain further control, while providing social interaction between you and your pet. In general dogs should get 1 or 2 hours daily of exercise depending of the age to be healthy. There are many ways to train your dog and we are going to give you some tips in this article.
Walking
Walking is a great exercise for you and your dog, you can start with small walks no more than 20 min at the beginning, with the time you can start incrementing the time.
Running
Running could be also a good exercise depending on your dogs, not all dogs can tolerate this kind of exercise but if your pet is up to this could be a great way to get him fit. Make sure to start slowly and work your way up to higher speeds and longer distances. Take breaks as needed, avoid running in hot temperatures and bring plenty of water along on runs.
Swimming
Most dogs know how to swim and others don’t even like the water, but if your pet is up to this exercise they’ll enjoy it. This is also great for dogs with joint problems, as it provides low-impact exercise. Remember never force your pet to do something that they don’t want to do.
Hide and sick
Dogs generally like to find their owners by following the trail of their natural scent making this game a good exercise and also stimulate their cognition abilities in their brain.
Tug
Most dogs love to play tug of war, this is a great physical and mental exercise for your dog but also increase the bond between you both.
Stairs
If you have stairs in your house you can take advantage of that to exercise your dog, you can ask your dog to follow you while you climb the stairs or you can throw a ball or a toy upstairs so they can fetch them. Running up and down a few times if you can’t get him outside is a great exercise for build muscle.
Always remember to start slowly and let your dog build up endurance and tolerance to the exercise, remember that not all dogs are the same and some of them should need more time to get use to the training. Avoid outdoor activities on very hot days, and be sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times and contact the vet if you notice any sign of illness during or after the exercise.
